Due to few moans I be getting over past few weeks, I have decide that in the future, the weekly e-newsletter that I send out on Thursday will only publicising  South Lakes Group events, if other local RSF groups or cycling clubs wish to have there events advertise in the Where the cafe? e-newsletter they must agree to have these events added to new diary of cycling events section on the Where’s the Brew stop? website as i have decide that Diary of off-road local group events website is not generate enough hits so I am going move information about the Autumn Meet, the Easter Meet, the National Committee  and joining information back on to South Lakes Group website, it may take me a few months to do but once it as been done the Diary of off-road local group events website will be close down.

To reflect these changes and put some distance from what Rough-Stuff Fellowship does on the web, the banner on the South Lakes Group website will be change to ‘ South Lakes Group, your local off-road cycle touring club, for cyclists who enjoy off-road leisure in  the South Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales’. This again may takes a few months to do but hopefully raise the sites rank in search engine rankings.

As there good core of local riders coming on South Lakes Group rides over the past 12 months, its time that some of the work I do in running the group is share out, Chris as take over maintaining the South Lakes Group Area on the Rough-Stuff Fellowship Website, I looking for someone to write bimonthly report of about 250 words of what the group as been doing over past two months for the Rough-Stuff Journal and e-mail to the Editor, as well as having me as Secretary, we should have group chairman, and other group officers your ideals would be welcome on this.

You may have notice that there runs meeting on the Saturday 10th November at 8 Beech Road, Halton starting at 7pm to plan forthcoming events of the group in December, January and February. So get thinking about some routes and maybe volunteer to a lead ride (You need to be member for a year before you lead a group ride).

My self and Ian plan the South Lakes Group rides for September, October and November at end of July to meet Rough-Stuff Journal deadline, these were e-mail Journal Editor on the 26th July it seems that he never receive them due he was having problems with his new e-mail account, so it look like the forthcoming South Lakes Group events for September and October will not be in the forthcoming journal, which I am unhappy about as I only found about it this week, its not major problem as most folk look at the South Lakes Group website or that the weekly newsletter.

You do have the right to rely if you agree or disagree me by writing a comment at bottom of this post.

The websites can you help?

Over past few years the various  South Lakes websites have grown to become heart of the Rough-Stuff Fellowship community in Northern England, some members may disgreed with me and say the heart of the club is still the Rough-Stuff Journal but for some members this is case!

Anyway what ever your opinion on this is, its getting stage where I need some help in running the websites, so looking form a small mangement committee to steer the websites on to next stage of development, I should point out that the websites are not own  by the club and the running costs come out of my back pocket and through advertising which generate about £65.00 a year through Goggle AdSense which I am looking to improve on!The web hosting is with 1&1 and currently have 1&1 home webhosting package which cost around £5 per month plus vat.

If you interest in being member of the mangement committee, please e-mail me at simeonorme[at]southlakesgroup.org.uk You don’t have expert on the web, put I am looking for members who willing help with website publicity(this is mostly posting on cycling forums and takes about hour to do each week), developing site content, looking at improving advertising income, looking at ways of getting discounts and benefits for members, taking on the editorship of the weekly e-newsletter (which takes about hour to do each week) and hope this give you some ideal what management committee is going to be about! The main aim of the websites is build community of cyclists who interest in off-road cycle touring in Northern England

Hopeful if there enough interest the first meeting will at end of June or begining of July.

Future plans for the web site

One of the problems I have now which I did not have when first started the South Lakes Group web site in 2001, is that the site has grown from being a site about the South Lakes Group to web site spread across three domain sites and seven sub domain sites plus the local RSF Groups Forum web site. So a major headache for me is how to link all eleven sections into single homepage what to call this home page with out upsetting users, I did have go doing this last year and got a lot of negative feedback from the page I put up, so I chose the easy option of what on home page of www.rsfnorth.org.uk this is link page to the various sections of the website.

So with the success of British Cycle Team at the Olympics, I think there need to improve this page and increase the number hits it get per month, so far month this page as received 96 hits, so how do this with out upsetting to many users like I did last year.

I think the way forward for this page is to promote the fact that the South Lakes Group, the Lancashire Group, the North Peak and South Pennine Group and the North Wales Group are part of network of local off-road cycle touring clubs for people who enjoy off-road leisure cycling or mountain biking and also make the point that once person has join the national club that they can go out with any group in the RSF network off-road cycling and mountain biking groups. You may argue that the Rough-Stuff Fellowship website does this already but the aim of Rough-Stuff Fellowship website is about selling membership in the Rough-Stuff Fellowship and promoting the national club where local groups websites are focus on trying promote fact that its cool, fun and exciting to go out on ride with your local RSF Group.

So what I am proposing do is change the Rsfnorth.org.uk home page into more search engine friendly page promoting fact that once you join the national club you can go out with any local group in the network and also its cool, fun and exciting to go out on ride with your local RSF Group.

So what do you think about this ideal? You can leave your comments about this post in the rely box at the bottom of this post.
