The next meeting of SLACC Transport Group is on Tuesday 30th March at 7.30pm at Ye Olde Fleece Inn in Kendal.
The SLACC Transport Group have been awarded funding to run a cycling promotion project in Kendal under the Cyclefest banner – they have about £4,000 in funding for this, plus probably a bit more from various other sources. They also looking for funding for Staveley Gti which will also discuss at the meeting.
So to that end they need to put together a series of events and promotional resources during spring and summer, one of which is to produce a cycling map of Kendal, various other resources as well as a marketing strategy for getting it out there. They also need to promote all the existing cycling events in the area and redesign the CycleFest website to reflect this years events. All exciting stuff!
They would like invite any cyclists living in the Kendal area to go to meeting, so that events can be organised.
I just recieved this e-mail from Sonny Kan which may interest members and visitors to this site.
Just want to send a personal invite to ask you all to the premiere of the Age of Stupid at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal on Sunday 6th Sept 8pm.
If you don’t know, its a great film starring Pete Postlethwaite as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking back at ‘archive’ footage from 2007 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the change? www.ageofstupid.net
I’m encouraging you all to come along – and more importantly to encourage your friends – its a great way to get people motivated to act.
Tickets are £6 and can be booked on 01539 725 133
Hope to see you there.
The next meeting of the Kendal Cycle Fest is on Thursday May 14th at 7.30pm at the Castle Street Centre in Kendal. This is the last meeting before the Kendal Cycle Fest and they will be looking at final logistics, publicity, and volunteer roles, so if you can help go along to the meeting and volunteer.

We have recently teamed up with Bluestone Events who will be working with us to secure additional commercial sponsorship. As a result, we moved the date of the CycleFest to Saturday 30th May to Sunday 7th June.
Festival day will take place at Abbot Hall Park on Saturday 30th May. On Sunday 31st May we are planning to hold a series of rides across South Lakes. The remainder of the festival week will be devoted to talks, workshops and otherrelated events.
Due to the expection of significantly incresed commerical sponsorship, we are now planning for a larger and more exciting festival and have a much more comprehensive marketing strategy. As a result we are expecting around 2-3 thousand people to turn up on the festival day.
We would like to include as may local cycle shops and cycling organisations as possible. If you can hold a bike ride, provide a speaker, hold a workshop, provide some skills training or stunt act or bring something else to the festival then we would like to hear from you. In return, we can provide exposure to a wide cycling audience across South Lakes, Cumbria and the UK.
We would also ask that you consider a link to the festival site on your own websites and to help us promote the festival using your own email lists, and allowing posters and leaflets of the festival to be put on display in your premises. Also, perhaps you can help us to oranise an event in your area in the build up to the festival?
Please take a look at the developing website www.cyclefest.org.uk and consider how you can get involved. We are not for profit organisation staffed by volunteers. It is our aim to increase the amount of cycling in South Lakes – both visitor and domestic – and to create a vibrant cycling ‘buzz’ across the whole region.
You contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Sonny on 07967312337 or Kate on 01539727928. We hope that you will find the time to support us in our aims and we look forward to hearing from you.
