Lancashire Group March 2009 update!
19/03/2009 by Simeon Orme.
I’ll start this report by giving my thanks to both Ken Glaze and Dug Heaven for organising and leading three of our rides this year. It helps tremendously when other leaders, and may I say friends, give the group support by putting on rides in areas that I do not know well, and also giving other members the opportunity to take advantage of their local knowledge.
The ride of the Masry Townley Loop of the Pennine Bridleway, over two days from Mankinholes YHA is now fully booked.
Anyone wishing to participate in the ride of the High Peak Trail in May and wanting to book the camp site at Street House Farm should book in plenty of time, it is a bank holiday weekend. Please contact me for details.
That’s all for now, Brian Parkinson.

Temporary Closure of Bridleway 514018, Crosthwaite and Lyth Parish
14/03/2009 by Simeon Orme.
The Lake District National Park have received an application for the temporary closure of Bridleway 514018 at Row Road because of works to be carried out near to the path.
In 2006 a limekiln, adjacent to the bridleway, collapsed. The structure was stabilised but is in a poor state of repair. Following negotiations with Natural England, the landowner is now in a position to restore the limekiln but the works will affect access to the bridleway.
So the National Park are proposing to make a closure order for 6 months, from 1st May for the section of bridleway from SD 45148958 to SD 45108953 The bridleway will only be closed when necessary within this period -hopefully only two to three week.
There is alternative route for cyclists using Back Lane and public road U5600 to avoid the closure.

04/03/2009 by Simeon Orme.
I have been contacted by Nick Thorne at Lake District National Parks to assist with attaining some information as to the usage of Walna and Garburn Passes by cyclists prior to 1930.
I’m sure that there must be many members with stories and maybe even photos of activities in these areas at this time.
If you are able to help with this or collect some information or suggest if any other member (perhap not on email) who may have information please contact me at pro@rsf.org.uk and I will pass the information onto Nick.

Twitter and South Lakes Website
02/03/2009 by Simeon Orme.
I f you have Twitter account (Twitter is free to join) you can now follow South Lakes Website updates at this link on Twitter and make a short rely about the updates or send me direct message but you limited to 140 characters or less, so its useful to me post short updates on whats happening on the South Lakes Website and let more people know about the website, plus increase the number of visitors to the site which may lead to more people coming out on Group rides and joining the Rough-Stuff Fellowship.
