You will notice from the latest addition to the forthcoming events section a number of extra events. The first one is to be our ride on the Mary Townley Loop over two days, staying at Mankinholes YHA, seven members have booked for this ride so far. However, I need to finalise the booking within the next few days, so if you are thinking of joining us, now is the time to book. If you want to join us for one day, or both, but do not need accommodation, then just let me know your intentions beforehand.
The next event I wish to mention is our ride of the High Peak Trail, starting from Pomeroy near Flagg, at Street House Farm Campsite, at the end of May. This ride will take us to Middleton Top Visitor Centre, all off road, and is also suitable for families/children. It will be conducted at a leisurely pace with ample refreshment and sightseeing stops. If you would like to stay overnight, please contact me for details of the site, and others in the area. Five of our group who are camping, intend to ride back home using the Pennine Bridleway, this will take four/five days, lightweight-camping with perhaps one hostel stop. If anyone is interested in joining us please contact me within the next month or so to discuss the details.
In July I am running four rides for the County Council, I do these for two main reasons. The first is to give people new to off-road riding and new cyclists a gentle introduction to our countryside on bridleways and tracks, and secondly to keep the RSF name to the forefront of cycling in Lancashire. The rides this year will be progressive, starting with a fairly level ride of only five miles in two hours and finishing with a hillier one of twenty two miles in five/six hours. Please come along and support these rides if you can.
The last of the extra events is a camping (or caravan/motorhome) weekend at Hollingworth Lake towards the end of July. There are two campsites available, one is solely for backpackers/cycle-campers (no Cars), the second is a commerical site that takes all types of camping units, they are very close together, so it will not matter which you choose. I should be on site by Friday lunchtime, for a short ride in the afternoon, there will be a lomger ride on the Saturday, and the Lancashire Group Sunday ride will take place from the Hollingworth Lake Visitor Centre car park at 10-00am on the Sunday. Please contact me for further details of this, or any other of the events you are interested in.
Later in the year I am hoping to organise a one night ‘Wild Camp’ and a bothy/camping barn run. Again this year we are organising two runs for the South Pennines Walking and Cycling Festival, these will be joint events with our North Peak and South Pennine Group, in September. I would appreciate your input and company on any of these events, and also your suggestions for other outings. For the exact dates of these rides see the forthcoming section of the Journal or the Websites.
Anyway, that’s all for now, l’ll try to keep everyone informed of our events as the year progresses, and if you know of any members who not receive the weekly e-newsletter, please get them to sign up, it really is an excellant way of keeping everyone informed.
