This year’s Churches Trust for Cumbria Ride and Stride event on Saturday 12th September
I received the e-mail below from Gina Dowding Co-director of Churches Trust for Cumbria which may interest some members and visitors to the website.
Dear Simeon,
I am promoting this year’s Ride and Stride event on Saturday 12th September in South Cumbria and wondering weather this might possibly appeal to members of your club. I realise that your members are usually more likely to be off road - but I wondered weather you would be so kind as to forward this to any one with families or who may consider this for a bike ride with a difference perhaps?
Ride and Stride is a sponsored course in which participants are invited to visit as many churches (chapels, meetings houses etc) in one day from between 10am - 6pm either by foot or by bike. The beauty of the event is that the ride or walk suitable for all ages, abilities and levels of fitness because participants devise a route to suit themselves visiting as many churchs as they wish. It takes part during Heritage Open Days weekend and we hope that people will be encouraged to enjoy some of our tresured and beautiful historic churches and chapels in South Cumbria regardless of how long they decide to stay at any one.
Churchs from Barrow, Kendal, the Kent Estuary through to Sedbergh will be open with a sign in list and some will provide refreshments (can’t guarantee sticky buns but ‘home made’ should be order of the day)!
All information for participants (background information, sponsor forms, list of churchs visited etc) is avaiable and downloadable from our website ( see the Ride and Stride page). A map of all churchs is currently under construction and will be available on the website at the beginning of August to help people plan their route (see Churches Directory). There is also an organiser’s briefing on the web. Each participant is encouraged to get sponsors for the number of churchs visited or for a fixed donation.
I should add that any funding raised is split equally between participants’ nominated church and the Churchs Trust fopr Cumbria. CTfC is a registered charity established to assist churches in Cumbria secure a future for their bulidings. Monies raised this year will go toward renovation or maintenance projects in South Cumbria. More information about CTfC and the support they offer is course available on the website.
Many thanks, in anticipation…..
With best wishes
Gina (Dowding)
