The ride along Ashes Lane wakes up the legs and open up a Lake District vista to savour. Along with new man John, from Cleveley, we rode to Wilf’s at Staveley for a brew where we were joined by John2. This was followed by the pull up to Borwick Fold and the descent to the Windermere ferry near Bowness. Passing a long line of waiting cars is always a pleasure though Simeon almost taken out’ by a Sunday driver not checking properly.
Across the ferry and a short way up the West bank we turned up the stony path above Harrow Slack where lunch was taken on the fell with panoramic views of Coniston Old Man and the Langdale Peaks.
Dropping through Far Sawery we took the trail past Moss Eccles and Wise Een Tarns. There are peaceful, wide open views before the forest encloses you again. Following a long descent, by trail to High Wray and the road to Low Wray, we turned off by Wray Castle to take the shore trail back to ferry.
An afternoon brew, at Bowness, was followed by a hard road climb to High Lickbarrow and trail to Clewbarrow. Then it was back, via Borwick Fold, to Ashes Lane.
