Well I just miss Graham and Lorna Harwood on Saturday by a minute or so as I was leaving Wilfs Cafe and heading back into Staveley Village when they must been coming into the Station Yard on the one way system around Wheelbase the other way, that will teach me to wait a bit longer at Wilfs next time!
Below is Graham ride report of his and Lorna ride its sound that they had a good ride anyway with out me.
Lorna and I decided a bit last minute to join your ride on Saturday so headed to Wilf’s at 10:45. We had a brew sat outside the front and after about half an hour assumed something might have happened that we missed you so had a ride to Whinfell Tarn anyway.
We headed out the back of Staveley on the road to Burneside to pick up the bridleway past Braben House to join the Garnett Bridge Road at Beetham Bank. From there we crossed the Sprint at Gurnal Bridge and climbed up through Garth Row to cross the A6 to continue the climb up Dry Lane, coming out at the lovely Selside School – what a location to start an education? Heading east on lanes and bridleway we had lunch by the River Mint as the bridleway is a ford at that point and we took the opportunity to dry off after our paddle. After lunch it was short loop round Whinfell Tarn and dropped down to Patton Bridge before returning via Kendal. No doubt a short route than yours but very pleasant on the "summer’s" day that it was for the 1st of October.
