Ride Leader plea for free family bike ride

I was wondering if I could ask for some assistance from people far more knowledgeable in the field of cycling as me than me… sorry if The Rough Stuff Fellowship gets inundated with these sorts or requests!

Lancaster University Student’s Union is organising a free family friendly bike ride on Saturday 3rd May.

The bike ride is going to be started by Olympic Cyclist Jason Queally at 10am, and offers 3 mileage options (1.8m, 6m, 17m), all of which will be guided on cycle way and marshalled roads.

Whilst this ride may be a shorter distance than you are used to, we were wondering if The Rough Stuff Fellowship might be available to help us on the day, by helping us to find Ride Leaders?

We are working with British Cycling and our university cycling society, but we’d really like to involve local cycling groups in the event to showcase the fantastic cycling resources that exist locally. We know that students and local people want to cycle more, but often are a little fearful of heading out alone – guided rides with people with local cycling knowledge would offer a great opportunity to promote local cycling (and your group!!)

We are hoping to find:

X4 leaders for the 17 mile route (approx 2hrs ride time)

X4 leaders for the 6 mile route (approx 1 hr ride time)

X12 leaders for 1.8 mile campus circuit (this could perhaps need fewer people if the do more than 1 ride)

The route will be risk assessed and leaders would be fully briefed. We appreciate you may not cover the Lancaster area, but we can also pay you reasonable travel expenses and refreshment expenses.

The ride is also part of the Roses Sporting Tournament – an annual sporting competition against York University – so we want to build a home team advantage!!

Of course, it would be great if you could promote this ride to your networks – it’s totally free and will be well supported on the day, with the addition of free sporting activity to watch for the remainder of the day (there is also free parking on campus).

If you have any questions, or are able to assist us, then please do email me or give me a call – my number is 01524 510849
